The electronica exhibition is a highly
regarded event. It takes place every two years and it is highly recommended to everybody
who has some connections or dealings with components:
Design Engineers (electrical, electronics,
mechanical, etc.) in the various electronic industries will have a wonderful experience of
seeing new developments and possible solutions to their projects. They will meet the
exhibitors face to face and get up-to-date information from them.
Purchasing Personnel who will be warmly
welcomed by the exhibitors and can both have a new business contracts or strengthen an
already established relationship. There is nothing like few drinks and alcohol fumes in
the air to strengthen any business relationship.
Components Engineers will have new
components updates and visit new exhibitors and learn about manufacturers they never
thought exist.
If you are a CE, then don't expect to be offered anything stronger that water. You should
stay sober so that you can absorb all the new developments.
Project Leaders and Managers will have a
good return on their investment if they can attend or send one of their trusted personnel
to attend the electronica Exhibition.
(Trusted to actually go to the exhibition every day instead of going shopping and
sightseeing of Munich)
The whole experience is both enjoyable and exhausting, since there are so many booths to
visit
Representatives and Distributors regard
this event as both a great opportunity to add more manufacturers to their line cards but
it is also a nightmare for fear that their competitors will try to do a cut and move of
manufacturers that are already represented by them.
Surely they can't afford to stay away from this exhibition and let others try to
persuade the manufacturers to sign a contract to change the representation to them.
So be there and act as a human firewall inside the booths.
Tips:
1 - Don't waste your valuable time by filling out forms at the booths. Just hand in your
personal business card and you will definitely get what you requested from the exhibitors
(catalogs, samples, specifications, etc.)
Just don't forget to take with you few hundreds of your personal cards.
2 - You will need a comfortable pair of shoes. Try to sit down for few minutes every now
and then, otherwise you will be mumbling to yourself, "Oh, my feet are killing
me".
Better still, take with you an extra pair of legs.
No, I don't mean your personal secretary.
3 - Get the exhibition catalog before you fly. This way you can organize your time and
decide beforehand which booths and exhibitors to visit.
The problem starts when you see those lovely ladies in the unplanned booths and you start
pretending to be interested in what they are exhibiting.
Be strong. Follow your schedule.
4 - Try to squeeze the whole thing in just 3 days (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday).
Friday is usually the last day and the exhibitors will be half dead from exhaustion and
alcohol in the blood.
Sorry, I meant blood in the alcohol.
Have a nice trip.
